Lacuisse Frères

Champagne Lacuisse Frères is based in Sermiers, a village classified Premier Cru in the heart of the Montagne de Reims.

The Lacuisse family has been growing vines since the early twentieth century: the estate, started by Julien Lacuisse and his sons, planted its present vineyard in 1960 and now farms 17 hectares, all in Sermiers, planted with 70% Meunier, 15% Pinot Noir and 15% Chardonnay.

The vineyard, on the Cosson estate, has a very long history: a document from 1630 already mentions "a castle called Causson, among pretty good vineyards" two leagues from Reims, and maps from 1786 show the Ferme du Cosson with the same plots that are farmed today. The subsoil is of marine origin: sediments rich in limestone, marl, clay and siliceous sand holding Lutetian fossils from 45 million years ago, among them the giant cerithes first described in the seventeenth century at Cosson itself. Hence the house motto, "The Mineral Dream".

The vineyard is certified Viticulture Durable en Champagne and Haute Valeur Environnementale. Riddling and disgorging are done in the family cellar, with no sulphites added at disgorging, and the Premium Nature collection, with no added sugar, ages for at least three years in the cellar.
